Hunting
Becoming a Hunter!
There is something about hunting, I believe, that calls to all men. Whether it is our desire to provide or our propensity to eat meat, I am not sure, but for some reason we love the hunt. This is one of those things that cannot be explained to our wives or mothers, but it seems we are up for any hunt.
I love the outdoors and always have. We at Back to Burly focus on men who get excited about the outdoors and all of the activities that go along with being an outdoorsman. Fishing has always been my passion when it comes to the outdoors, but I have never been much of a hunter. My brother loves to hunt and does so whenever he gets a chance. I did some dove hunting when I was a kid and still love to shoot, but have never been a serious hunter. Talking hunting is not a problem, because I have grown up and worked around hunters. But, the truth is I am not a hunter.
While developing this website, I thought I could just have other people write the articles on hunting and pick up the hobby. Then I realized that this is a great opportunity to share this process of me becoming a hunter. There is no reason to hide it! Over the next couple of months I hope to go from a non-hunter to a person that hunts. Over the next couple of years I plan to move from a person that hunts to a great hunter. This will be a difficult process, but with hard work, research, and seeking the wisdom of great hunters it can be accomplished. Oddly enough this is the way that all things get done.
My immediate plan is to get in the woods. Take my bow and hunt anywhere and anything that I am legally allowed. This means deer, hogs, or raccoons digging in my trash. Since I live in Central Florida, which is not know for its “great” deer, I will hunt some of the local public land and some private land of friends. I do not expect great success as far as trophies go, but what I do expect to learn a lot about habitat and habits. After I learn a little locally, I will begin to move north and eventually all around the world in my quest to become a truly great hunter.
As I learn maybe you or your son or daughter can learn along with me. I will not hide my mistakes or my stupidity but will share them so that you may avoid the same. Join me on this adventure and if you have any information that can help, please do not hesitate to send it to me at www.Jim@BacktoBurly.com .
If you have a great hunting story please send it in to www.Jim@backtoburly.com, along with some pictures, and it may be published on our site.
